–your character should not be judged on how you treat strangers (for, everyone is cordial and nice when it comes to strangers. everyone wants to put forward their best akhlaq in front of people they don’t know.) -it should judged on how you treat those closest to you; your mom and dad, wife or husband, your friends…your character should be judged on how you treat those people who you come in contact with, every day.
it’s easy to slip up and snap at your friend (or even your mom/dad, or husband/wife…I think we sometimes are so used to those people closest to us, that we think we won’t hurt their feelings if we aren’t so kind and gracious to them). since good character around these kinds of people is something that needs to practiced every day, it’s harder to maintain, and so that is the real criterion for judging good character.
